L3 Unit 8: Week 7

Image
This week I've done a lot of recording and managed to complete all drums, vocals, and bass for all three of my songs. There may be one or two guitar parts I haven't done but they can be completed in the mac lab or SLD1.  This is "Corrosion of the Mind" in logic Here's is Misu setting up the microphone so I can do vocals. It was good fun, the songs I have are starting to sound really good now This is me adding noise gate to the guitar track of my new song "Unscathed" an instrumental track. Unscathed is now finished. Now I need to finish the other two tracks My tasks for the finale tomorrow Double track the guitars on "Poisonous Soul" and mix and master it Mix and master "Corrosion of the Mind" then release the EP  Then the evaluation post to finish This is me mixing and mastering "Corrosion of the Mind"

L3 Unit 8 Evaluation

N00BSAIB0B · Poisonous Soul Finally, at long last my EP is completed and despite the multiple things I couldn't do and the time restraints I faced, I did it. I think this is 10x better than my EP on Level 2 so allow me to evaluate and explain why. What Happened? I had already co-written Corrosion of the mind in my band so I already had two songs along with Poisonous Soul. I knew I had to use these on my EP otherwise they would be lost and probably never to be heard. I went through some planning and realised I had lots to do, so I made a start by writing Unscathed with Bien on drums and it worked really well. I was waiting on the drummer of my band to help me in the studio and even when I booked the studio she was nowhere to be found, so I opted to have bien on the record. I hardly remember the recording process, but I know it was good fun. Sometime I was left really tired after recording sessions. I did as much research as I could come across but admittedly I was more focused o...

L3 Unit 8: Week 6

This week I'll be prioritising the 4th and final song. In my time not only here in this college, but during this project, I've realised that I can no longer rely on anyone else to help me with this project. I may need someone for the odd thing here and there but I need to meet this deadline sharpish. I'm thinking of just writing a guitar solo in logic. No drums, maybe a bit of bass guitar, but mostly guitar. My third song will be in the studio with Bien and Misu, but I'll do the 4th song myself. Simply put, I haven't got any time for this project to be sullied by the unreliability of others. Time to head to logic and see what we can do.. I got inspired to do the 4th song by these people who play along to backing tracks like this            I don't know why but stuff like this gave me the idea to do so. I used these particular effects on the MIDI keyboard and tried to solo over it. Its gonna take some more solid song structuring to make a song. I didn't rea...

L3 Unit 8: Week 5

Today I will be recording "Corrosion of the Mind" the second song by "Poisonous soul" The lineup looks like this for today.  Bobby - Guitar Polly - Guitar Bien - Drums Misu won't be here today, but he will record his bass lines presumably on Tuesday as I have booked out the studio yet again for Tuesday afternoon. Now that things are starting to come together, I'll have be using the studio to record as much drums as possible.  Here's the plan: Record the guitars straight into the mac so I can mix them later whilst Bien also records his drums at the same time if we have any spare time I can do vocals for both "Corrosion of the Mind" and "Poisonous Soul" if we have any spare spare, me and Bien can make a start on our 3rd song which has no title yet. Tuplet group research For example, a quintuplet of notes  would consist of five eighth notes played in the space where four eighth notes (or one half note) would normally fit. The grouping ...

L3 Unit 8: Week 4

With Week 4 creeping up on me like mothers day, I am scrambling for ideas of how to spend my time. My rehearsals for the new songs aren't happening as frequently as i'd like and I don't start recording the songs I already have until Thursday. My ideas for research are wearing thin but if theres anything I can do in college it's arrange the songs independently and get everyone in my band up to speed with the structure then record them. I have no time to make this perfect, but getting a good result is certainly not out of the equation. Heaven knows I have plenty of riffs in my phone that can create a song, I just need to figure out how to arrange them properly into songs.  The tide will turn, and before soon I will have something to show for this project I believe that the best course of action for the songwriting is to make it as simple as I can. Verse Chorus Verse Chorus Solo Chorus End. I don't expect to create some of my best work i'll ever create to be here, ...

L3 Unit 8: Week 3

Here's my reflection for the week, not exactly a back-breaking week but it's all going to come together Corrosion of the Mind This song is the first song in which our band properly worked together as a unit in the song writing. The structure and riffs are full of life and emotion and really sticks out to us as some of our best work.  The song is in 4/4 and the intro is in E and the verse riff sounds really good and suspenseful. The chords in the chorus are B, G, D, and A but the guitars don't play the A, the bass does while the guitars play a beautiful harmony. Polly has an amazing and melodic solo just after second chorus which leads us to the climax of the song itself and we are in the key of B. My solo is not that good but I will hopefully make it better on the record.  Lyrics Poisonous Soul Poisonous Soul is our title track and definitely the heaviest. It is structured like a typical thrash song and it illustrates what we do best, strong choruses, surprising harmonie...

L3 Unit 8: Week 2

For when recording guitar away from the studio, I will research the recording of guitars into logic and how to get a good sound from the amps in logic. It also goes through the different pedal boards you can apply like distortion pedals, delay pedals, and harmony pedals which will be useful for my upcoming songs I recon Today is where I begin work on my next song, it never fails to excite me when it comes to songwriting. there will be multiple images coming up showing our writing session including riffs, chords, and all sorts of information about the music theory behind what we have so far This is my set up Here is our bassist Misu and here is our new drummer Bien The writing session was mostly successful and we created a pretty silly song but it worked well. the song itself is two notes E and F and I play a lot of octaves in the riff Our working title is gonna be "Yellow Fog" since it sounds a little bit like purple haze by Hendrix but that name is probably not going to las...
