L3 Unit 8 Evaluation
Finally, at long last my EP is completed and despite the multiple things I couldn't do and the time restraints I faced, I did it. I think this is 10x better than my EP on Level 2 so allow me to evaluate and explain why.
What Happened?
I had already co-written Corrosion of the mind in my band so I already had two songs along with Poisonous Soul. I knew I had to use these on my EP otherwise they would be lost and probably never to be heard. I went through some planning and realised I had lots to do, so I made a start by writing Unscathed with Bien on drums and it worked really well. I was waiting on the drummer of my band to help me in the studio and even when I booked the studio she was nowhere to be found, so I opted to have bien on the record. I hardly remember the recording process, but I know it was good fun. Sometime I was left really tired after recording sessions. I did as much research as I could come across but admittedly I was more focused on other things but more on research later. My practical skills in playing the guitar were really good i thought. For Unscathed I made a riff in a 9/8 time signature and Bien was a big fan of it. I did plan on writing a fourth song but due to lack of time and commitment from other people, there was no way I could write another one even if I did write a track all on my own.
What Went Well?
I thought my guitar playing and techniques were very good, Unscathed started to show the more original side of my songwriting as I have been studying different music and learning more guitar techniques. Bien came in clutch on the drums and despite the torture I put him through, the songs sound great. Misu helped me big time as well, not only is he a very talented bassist, he knows the technical side of things which helped for things like setting up mics, operating logic during recording sessions. Put it this way, I'd be in a right old mess if he it weren't for Misu, so I owe him a drink at the least.
What Would I do Differently?
I would have booked studio sessions way sooner than I initially did since I did not have time for a fourth song in the end. I would do a little bit more research on blogger, I've got some good research as it is, but I would have liked a little bit more. The mixing process was quick and rushed even though I did spend some time mixing the first two songs I thought they could definitely have done with a makeover. Also, I would be remiss if I didn't mention how short some of the blogger posts are. I think I started well in that regard but toward the end of the project when things started getting busier and I started doing more recording It became a bit flat.
Conclusion
This project was great fun, I wouldn't say I have 0 regrets because as I've said theres lots I could've done but in the end, I released more music into the world, music that I have written and created, and to me, there is no greater triumph than immortalising your soul and preserving your art for everyone to see.
