UNIT 8: Evaluation

During the creation of these four songs, I learnt a lot about music and songwriting and it was a great experience overall. At the start I made the Master of Puppets interlude to get my hands on Logic so I could understand it better. I didn't intend on using that on my EP but I eventually ended up using it as the second track. Once I had completed the guitars for the first song, I started work on my second song “Take it to your grave” This is a song that I take great pride in as it's my first ever original song. The main riff was created on a random drunken Thursday evening and the next day I came into college and I put it into logic. There a lot of figuring out to do such as the tempo, the key of the riff, the bassline etc. But I eventually finished the song by adding a solo using the A minor pentatonic scale and adding an interlude part of the song using a sample from the animated television show “Invincible” where a character named Conquest tells the main character all of his dark secrets before attempting to kill him as he says “Take it to your grave” Which inspired the name of the song. Once I had completed my original track I was thrilled and really pleased with my song. I then completed a cover of “Am I Evil?” followed by a cover of “She-Wolf” by Megadeth. Obviously, it was not as simple as that as there were mulitiple complications throughout the creation of these four songs, but I am satisfied with the result because it gives me a sense of accomplishment watching my riff go from something a created in my room on one random night to a full song with multiple instruments and a solo. In one of my previous posts, before I begun this project, i stated that I wanted to create 3 to 5 songs with at least one of those being my own creation and I did exactly that so to be able to say that all went to plan is great. The easy parts were easy, and the hard parts were hard. There was no inbetween it was as simple as that. I raced through Am I Evil? with ease but She-Wolf was a grind because of the tough solo at the end of the song. The research I carried out was very handy as it helped put everything in place, for example, using the stem splitter and the YouTube video downloader made everything perfect for my original song and was so glad it sounded how it did in the end. Throughout this project my skills at songwriting, playing songs and solos on the guitar, and logic skills have increased immensely, and I will certainly use these skills in the future. I wouldn't change much about this project but if I were to do this again, I would make it so that my original song was more in time because it does drift in and out of time sometimes. This was a pleasure to create, and I now leave you with the finished product!
