Unit 8: Week 2 & 3

Image
Following the creation of "Drunk ass riff 1" i created this demo of the main riff on logic and i'm happy to say i've made progress, but this is thirty work. Week 2 was really tough because i struggled to remain focused in the process of recording. My brain has been all over the place since last week and i am looking to rectify that in week 3. Week 3 began with my lecturer showing me the blues scale and a few other scales which can influence solos and help create riffs. N00BSAIB0B · blues scale practise 1   I messed about with the scale for a bit until i created a blues riff and threw a bit of distortion on it and just like that, i've got a new riff. It doesn't exactly fit into the doomy/egypt like riff in my first track, so maybe that'll be a new song entirely. I'm thinking just a whole instrumental song with blues solos over it and dedicating it to the madness that has occurred in the past year, from the start of college in september to the now in ap...

Unit 8: Week 1

So far i have learned how to put a guitar into logic using an interface and how to record my guitar parts into logic. I choose to play a harmony from the 1986 track by metallica "Master of Puppets". i chose this because it is a very good solo and it will get me into harmonizing which i had never done before  First of all, i had put the interface in control of the sound by changing the output and input to the interface. I then changed the input and output in logic to the interface. I then plugged a guitar cable into the interface but there was no sound on it so i had to change the interface to channel 2 so the system could hear my guitar. I checked a tab for master of puppets and changed the tempo to 106 which orchestrates the speed of the song. I had then started recording the two guitar tracks which harmonized with each other and after hundreds and hundreds of takes, i finally got the perfect harmony. I am proud of what i created in logic since this was my first time using...

UNIT 8: Project Idea

Image
UNIT 8: Project Idea For my project, i want to record an EP that consists of 3 to 5 songs with at least one being an original written by me. This will showcase my songwriting skills and guitar playing skills. I'm thinking of doing something based around Thrash metal or Death/Black metal because it's my favourite genre and i'm looking to make a career out of playing music in this style and creating a sound and style that suit me and is iconic to me. I've chosen to do this because im good at Rhythm and want to learn about doing solos and making my fingers move around the fretboard faster and more elegantly. To achieve this i would like to practise with a metronome to keep in time.  I would like to learn about production through research and searching online for guitar techniques, exercise, and practice rituals so that my understanding of logic is more advanced and it makes the production and mixing easier. In order to ensure that my EP is of a high standard, i need to ex...

UNIT 5: Research Methods

Image
Primary vs. secondary research.   Primary research is what you find out through your own independent research whilst secondary research is what you find out through others research What is the research process? Research process involves finding information online then presenting something through your own data and analysis. . Techniques to ensure the accuracy of our decisions.   We need to make sure that our data is accurate and useable, we need to make sure that the information we have is up to date. If something is released in 2001 for example, that won't be relevant information today. To be even more sure that our information is correct, we need to make sure that our sources are trustworthy. Read the about sections of websites, if they are well established news articles who have been around for years then they sound pretty reliable, but if they were started last w...

Unit 6: Theatre Performance 2

Image
In February, I and a few of my peers performed as a band in front of the Llwyn a bryn theatre. The said band did not have a name and also did not have a bassist, leaving the band with the following lineup: Ren -Vocals  Harrison -Guitar  Levi -Drums Bobby (Myself)-Guitar Tom -Bass The setlist was as follows Basket Case Lonely Day American Idiot Can You Hear The Rain? I was not initially a fan of green day but i knew it could be worse so i learnt the songs with no problem at all. i proposed that we do a cover of "Am I Evil?" by Diamond Head but the arrogant singer went against it so we scrambled to find a song that satisfied all of our music tastes. We eventually went for Lonely Day by System of a down which i had no problem with. We rehearsed for weeks, and struggled because our full band would never turn up so we had to rehearse without a vocalist, drummer, bassist etc. Our bassist would do little to absolutely nothing and slow down everyone else in the process and it w...
