I was not initially a fan of green day but i knew it could be worse so i learnt the songs with no problem at all. i proposed that we do a cover of "Am I Evil?" by Diamond Head but the arrogant singer went against it so we scrambled to find a song that satisfied all of our music tastes. We eventually went for Lonely Day by System of a down which i had no problem with. We rehearsed for weeks, and struggled because our full band would never turn up so we had to rehearse without a vocalist, drummer, bassist etc. Our bassist would do little to absolutely nothing and slow down everyone else in the process and it was getting worse day after day. With the bassists mental health declining rapidly and multiple band members not showing up, we were perplexed. We could only work with what we had and had to crack on with the three songs we had. The bassist made the decision to not bother playing the gig anymore due to a chronic illness that started a week ago and left us as a 4 man band and to no ones surprise, our work ethics became astoundingly better. We found a 4th song for us to perform and that was "Can you hear the rain?" by Unto Others. A seemingly simple song which we all got the hang of. On the day of the gig i thought we performed well as a band, except the vocalist Ren contracted a cold making her sound worse than she already is. We performed Basket Case first then followed with Lonely Day and everything was good before American Idiot. We began the song as normal and halfway through the song Harrison decides to spin around like a man possessed and in doing so, his cable fell out of his pedalboard. I didn't notice at the time so i continued playing but when i watched it back the next day that was when i noticed and i couldn't help but cringe at his shameful attempt at being a showman. We then played the final song and the curtain came down on a successful gig which was way better than my last.
I learnt a lot from this gig and i will use this information to improve my gigs in future. With every gig I play my individual performance gets better and better without exception. If I keep playing gigs i can see cookies in my future no doubt.
If i were to do this gig again i would learn the songs more thoroughly as i made a few mistakes when on stage but unfortunately regardless of how good you are, mistake are inevitable. I would also influence a better song choice and the possible idea of creating more songs independently as a band.
