Unit 8: Week 1

Before I properly start unit, I need to figure out where my head is at. What kind of songs do I want to write? where will the songwriting come from? 

Let me look at some songs and see what influences I can find

1 Pneuma - Tool


This is the song that started my addiction to this band. What an incredible song with some unconventional time signatures and powerful dynamics. The song is about transcendence from ones physical being and ascending to a higher being. The spacial themes in this song really make you feel like you're in a strange place and the dynamics are just incredible during the build up. Danny Carrey the drummer uses a circle of fifths which transitions to a circle of fourths and then finally thirds. The drum signature is in 33/8 which is broken down into more smaller, manageable sections like 6/8, 6/8, 5/8, 6/8, 5/8, 5/8. The whole band contributes to the driving force that is the buildup of the song and couldn't have executed it better. The dynamics is definitely something I will want to implement into my music as well as other instrumentation like synthesisers and keyboards


2 Head Crusher - Megadeth


This is an utterly brutal song about putting someones head into a vice and turning it. Themes like that help drive the gory and violent direction of the song which make it so much better. The middle breakdown part with the down picking on the E string is so heavy, and is so hard to not head bang when listening to it. I could use things like this in my songwriting; a nice quick and easy 3 minute song, not exactly a filler song, but a well constructed one.

Throughout the course of this project I have done a lot of research in this project so today I will show and explain all the research I've done in this project. What you see here the tabs for "Enter Sandman" and "Lucretia". During the creation of my First and original song "Take it to your grave" I wanted to figure out a new section for my song as I didnt know what would come next. L3 Unit 5 & 6

This will be my on going diary for units 5 and 6 dedicated to the creation, recording, and mixing of my music video.   For this assignment, I need to write a song, record it in logic, mix it, record a music video, edit the music video, and release it on YouTube. The song that my band have chosen to recording a music video for is "Take it to your Grave" which is a song about the character named "Conquest" from the comic book TV adaptation "Invincible". In the season 3 finale, Invincible faces planet Viltrums most feared warrior "Conquest" who batters invincible from pillar to post. During the fight, Conquest opens up to our hero and discusses his feelings of loneliness and isolation from his own race and how he doesn't even get his own name, only a purpose. Unit 8: Week 1

 So far i have learned how to put a guitar into logic using an interface and how to record my guitar parts into logic. I choose to play a harmony from the 1986 track by metallica "Master of Puppets". i chose this because it is a very good solo and it will get me into harmonizing which i had never done before  First of all, i had put the interface in control of the sound by changing the output and input to the interface. I then changed the input and output in logic to the interface. I then plugged a guitar cable into the interface but there was no sound on it so i had to change the interface to channel 2 so the system could hear my guitar. I checked a tab for master of puppets and changed the tempo to 106 which orchestrates the speed of the song. I had then started recording the two guitar tracks which harmonized with each other and after hundreds and hundreds of takes, i finally got the perfect harmony.
